Mary has chosen the Better Part

Mary has chosen the better part

"The Lord answered Martha, Martha you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her". Luke 10:41-42

I have read this scripture many times, and each time God reveals something I have never seen before. You are probably familiar with this story. Jesus went to see Martha and Mary. They were Lazarus's sister the man that He brought back life after being dead for 4 days). When Jesus got there Martha took charge of the situation by keeping herself busy by doing all of the chores that we do when trying to be a good host. I imagined her cooking and cleaning and welcoming all of the other guests, but her sister Mary sat at Jesus feet. Back in the days, people used to sit at their teachers feet when learning. The apostle Paul often talks about sitting at Gamaliel feet (Act 22:3). Mary did not want to miss out on anything he had to say. Remember, this the same Mary who washed Jesus feet with perfume and wiped them dry with her hair.

Imagine Martha surprise when Jesus answered that Mary has chosen the best part.
Many times we get caught up in our daily activities and forget to spend time at Jesus feet. The only way to learn and to develop a relationship is to spend time together. We tend to be confused in today's society. We run from church to church. Service after service and yet we neglect spending time reading and meditating on God's word. Going to church is great. It is very important to have an assembly, a place of worship but it is even better to spend some alone time with Christ.

I know the story of a man who divorced his wife for spending too much time cooking and cleaning and raising the children and yet spent no times getting to know her husband and She is always too busy to schedule alone times for the two of them. She was so surprised and hurt when he walked away.

Don't let daily activities keep you from spending time with the Lord. Stop running around doing things that God does not require of you.
Stop running from revival to revival, conference to conference. Start scheduling time alone with God. It is during those times that He will speak to your heart and guide your paths. Like Mary choose the best part today. Schedule none negotiable DAILY time with God and be blessed.

Praise the Lord.
