Learning to Wait on God......

Wait for the Lord; Be strong, and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord. Psalm 27:14

For evildoers will be cut off, But those who wait for the Lord, they will inherit the land. Psalm 37:9

After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you. 1 Peter 5:10

I believe that one of the most difficult instructions of the Bible to follow is the call to "wait on the Lord." Intellectually we know the blessing attached to waiting on the Lord but Christians have a hard time waiting. It is no surprise that waiting would be a struggle to this "now/instant gratification/time is money" generation. Another complication of waiting is that people falsely believe that they have power outside the will of God. They prone to forget that their sufficiency is through Christ. In their arrogance, people, yes even Christians, deceive themselves. They actually believe they can change their situations much faster they God and as a results, they go through years of suffering for a matter that could have easily been resolved in a few days. How many years did the children of Israel spent in the wilderness because of the same arrogance? Friend, the Bible urges us to "wait on the Lord" over and over again

Despite our dislike of waiting, we find ourselves waiting continuously in traffic, at the doctor's office, at the post office, and many other places. Maybe like many Americans, you are in a job situation that’s really tough to endure. Believe me when I tell you that I understand. The bills are piling up, you lost your home and you have to rent a storage place, swallow your pride and move in with a relative or a friend. It is a tough situation to find yourself in. you are praying, waiting and hoping that conditions will change for the better but they don't. It seems that God has forgotten about you and people are talking and laughing about you. Taking matter into your own hands could be tempting but do not make a move. You might fall into a trick of the enemy. If you are a believer, you are instructed to trust God even through the dark valleys.

Another tough area of waiting has to do with healing when you or a loved one is ill. Waiting for health improvement is as tough as it gets, but as a believer you are again instructed to bring your burden to God and expect Him to work on your behalf at the appointed time. Waiting for Mr./Miss Right is also an are that causes anxiety and impatience, but waiting for a godly partner is vital. People get impatient when waiting to be married. They often make a regrettable move in their impatience.

I am not sure about what you may be going through at the moment, but whatever it is the word of God instructs us to wait on the Lord because God loves us. He created us. He knows what is best for us. He knows how to fix broken hearts. He knows how to heal the body. He knows how to fill loneliness. He is Omniscient! He knows you well. In fact, He knew you before you were formed in your mother's womb. Isn't that amazing? He loves you unconditionally. He knows the real you, the inner you and yet He still loves you. He proved His love by sending His son, Jesus Christ to die a public and humiliating death on the cross just for your salvation. There is no limit to what God can/will and want to do for you. Wait on God my friend. Wait on Him. You will not be deceived. He does not perform temporary fixes. At the appointed time He will come through in a major and satisfying way because of His love. Don't ever underestimate God's love and might. Wait on God and be blessed!

Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him. 14 For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust. 15 As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. 16 When the wind has passed over it, it is no more; And its place acknowledges it no longer. 17 But the loving kindness of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children’s children, 18 To those who keep His covenant, And who remember His precepts to do them. 19 The LORD has established His throne in the heavens; And His sovereignty rules over all. Psalm 103:13-19

Praise the Lord!
