My Comforter

My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 1 John 2:1

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 14:26

So let me get this straight: I have a comforter in heaven (Jesus Christ) and I have a comforter on earth (The Holy Spirit). Jesus loves us so much that he did not want us to be alone. He made sure that we had help before he went back to the Father. There have been times in my life when the Holy Spirit has been my only comforter. The days that followed my mother burial were particularly challenging and the weeks that followed my father's wedding just months afterwards were heart wrenching. I don't know where I would have been without the Comforter. There were moments when I felt the hands of God on me. I have felt the embrace of the Holy Ghost on many occasions. I am not talking figuratively. I really felt His touch. I thank God for those moments when the Holy had to personally come to comfort me and encourage me to keep moving. It is interesting to me that Jesus had to live in order for the Holy Ghost to come so you and I can fully benefit. While Jesus can serve us better at the right of the Father, the Holy Ghost can help us here on earth. It is a "win-win" situation.

My dear friend, nothing else can take the place of the Comforter in your life.I have tried many times to comfort people but I never can find the right words. What do you say to a woman who waited 40 years to be married and another 4 years to conceive a child who she just found out is fighting a terminal illness? What do you say to a person whose husband of thirty years just walked out? What do you say to parents who are burying their unsaved son? No words in the world can bring them comfort, but the Holy Ghost can reach those who are unreachable. Praise the Lord! How wise is the Holy Ghost! He is never out of heart with those whom He needs to comfort.

Friend, whether you know it or not, you have received the Holy Ghost. At salvation, the Holy Ghost came to reside in you. When you receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you were also given the Holy Spirit. It is a package deal. You too can now have comfort. There is no need to seek comfort in all the wrong places. Comfort is within you. Everything you could ever need was made available to you at Calvary. Christ died to offer it all to you. No matter what you are going through, I assure you that you are not alone. He is with you. Like David, surely goodness and mercy will follow you all the days of you life. There are no exceptions. The Word of God in John 3:25 assures us that whosoever believes in Jesus Christ shall not perish and if you believe in Him my friend you also have eternal life and shall stand in heaven safe and secure. That is the awesome gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Praise the Lord!
